Ad-Supported Free Music Downloads Impact the Mobile Space
Cloudtrade Continues to Add Notable Music on Mobile Sharing Platform

ANN ARBOR, Michigan—July 10, 2008—Cloudtrade, a mobile social media networking company, makes good on a promise to continuously add free, full-track music downloads from top tier content partners on their mobile sharing platform. Today, Cloudtrade announced a partnership with Ghostly International, purveyors of some of the finest and most inspirational electronic musicians in the world, and A-Squared Management, the management arm of Aware Records. Ghostly and A-Squared will join top U.S. Indie labels, ATO and SCI Fidelity Records, in offering free music downloads on Cloudtrade’s mobile sharing application during a three-month evaluation period.

Through the most recent partnerships, Cloudtrade has added over 500 tracks to its catalog of free music during their beta test. Ghostly’s artist roster boasts forward-thinking acts like instrumental hip-hop prodigy Dabrye, electronic beatsmith Matthew Dear, electronic/indie rock pioneers Midwest Product and a musical firebrand Dykehouse. A-Squared Management put forth tracks from four of its artists, The Heyday, Sanders Bohlke, Leslie and Jackopierce. Songs by these artists, and many others, are available as free full-track downloads to registered Cloudtrade users on their mobile phones.

According to Raj Kanapur, CEO of Cloudtrade, “In an emerging mobile market, we have a unique opportunity to work with record labels in an effort to change user behavior and combat music piracy. On our platform, if users want to download music for free, not only can we provide it for them, but we can even reward them for doing so.”

The system in place treats registered Cloudtrade users as “content providers,” allowing them to earn points every time someone downloads their content. These points can later be redeemed for merchandise like gift cards or more storage on the site. Kanapur continues, “We are looking to foster a community of users that wish to exchange any type of digital content for free. By doing so, we can grow our user base and create a more attractive environment for content providers and advertisers.”

In exchange for free MP3 downloads, Cloudtrade asks users to interact with advertisers on their mobile platform. Whereas online properties cannot seem to generate enough ad revenues to offer free full-track, DRM-Free, non-tethered, non-subscription, or non-streaming downloads, Cloudtrade is confident that on the mobile phone, they can realize enough revenues to pay artists and labels a royalty on downloads.

Interaction and engagement is key to Cloudtrade’s success as an ad-supported mobile platform. Their proprietary ad portal allows advertisers to move away from static and uninspired text and banner ads – instead, they can place audio/video ads and games with plenty of interactivity throughout. Kanapur suggests, “Imagine, as a user, discovering an artist like Gomez on Cloudtrade, and during your free download you watch an ad to win free Gomez tickets sponsored by a local radio station or ticketing agency. The mobile environment lets us mix all types of industries and media, and puts real content in the hands of our users for free.”

In order to get free music via Cloudtrade, users have to register at www.cloudtrade.com and download the sharing application to their phone. Once logged in, the program is intuitive and easy-to-use. The sharing element of Cloudtrade’s platform embraces social media networking by allowing users to “Cloud Hop” (browse their friends’ Clouds) and “Search the Skies” (search the Cloudtrade community) to discover new content. An additional feature, “Sky Writing”, is a full messaging platform that lets users share content by attaching links to files within messages to their friends.
